Oniism is a Melbourne based artist specialising in all things macabre, psychedelic and feminine. The artist is regularly influenced by pop-culture, fantasy and the ‘feminine body.’ Oniism uses the latter as a vessel to express different themes and ideologies such as gender and identity. Although aerosol is a frequent medium of choice for the artist, a background in design and digital practices has aided in developing Oniism's own ‘Dreamland’ aesthetic, evident in each of their pieces.
Oniism’s work often aims to illustrate and portray the weird and wonderful in a colourful and whimsical wonderland with no boundaries of the scale of the work, which reflects their limitless passion for creating mini masterpieces everyday.
We come from different walks of life, different understandings, cultures and backgrounds, but language is the one the one thing that can really help us empathise and connect with others around the world. This piece explores the ideas of diverse language and communication through the physical embodiment of the “Mother Tongue” as a goddess; expressing the beauty of speech and expression and the vibrancy of her nature.
