A Melbourne Story
The Doorman is an unapologetically Melbourne film set in a period of the city’s transition, amongst the backdrop of the city's prominent night culture. Infused with social and political themes, the film aims to explore the incessant need for acceptance within a culture obsessed with face value.
Jack is a mysterious nightclub doorman renown for selecting the ‘right people’, for the ‘right place’. After an illegal immigrant is found dead from an overdose in a club, a chain of events is unleashed. Jack not only finds himself in the crosshairs of a federal investigation, but is also caught up in an erupting underworld of bikies infiltrating Melbourne’s clubs and an oppressive oligarchy led by a man of immeasurable influence on a global scale. After years of manning the doors, Jack is now forced to make a decision - is he in or out.
